Reduce the problem to power, ground, command, response, communication, and mechanical effect. Find the boundary where expected behavior stops.

Use wiring information, scan data, voltage-drop tests, current measurements, oscilloscopes, and network captures where each tool can answer a specific question.

Challenge the conclusion

Repeat the condition, compare known-good behavior, and look for evidence that contradicts the leading theory before condemning a component.
